B2B TOOL COMPARISON

Compare B2B lead generation tools by the job they actually need to do

A database, enrichment service and research workflow solve different problems. Compare the job, operating effort and evidence you need before choosing a category.

COMPARE BY JOB

02Check data and source needs
03Estimate team effort
04Test handover fit
SHORTLIST WITH CONTEXT ↗
01 · DATABASE DISCOVERY

For teams that want to search and work the data themselves.

A searchable database can be a good starting point when your market fits available filters and your team owns qualification, verification, deduplication and CRM preparation. Confirm coverage, permitted use and how often records are refreshed.

  • ✓Searchable company and contact fields
  • ✓Filters that match your market
  • ✓Export and usage controls
02 · ENRICHMENT

For filling gaps in records you already have.

Enrichment tools append fields to known companies or contacts. They are not automatically a substitute for deciding whether an account belongs in your market or whether a person is the right buyer.

  • ✓Known input records
  • ✓Field-level match and confidence
  • ✓Clear treatment of missing values
03 · RESEARCH WORKFLOW

For markets that need evidence and judgement.

Managed research combines a written brief, company and buyer research, verification, duplicate handling and human review. It suits teams that need finished records rather than another queue of searches.

  • ✓Custom qualification
  • ✓Source context per record
  • ✓Review-ready handover
04 · DISCLOSURE

What this comparison does—and does not—claim.

This is a job-based framework, not a hands-on product test. Tool features, coverage, pricing and policies change. Check each vendor's current documentation, terms and dated source material before making a purchase; Keystone has not independently verified every provider claim here.

  • ✓Review current vendor documentation
  • ✓Record the date of your comparison
  • ✓Separate vendor claims from your own testing

A dated shortlist by job

Checked against the linked provider pages on 18 September 2026. This is a documentation-based comparison, not an independent coverage or accuracy test. Keystone also sells research and installation services, so assess that commercial interest alongside the framework. No numerical vendor ranking or live subscription price is asserted here.

  • Hunter Domain Search supports finding contact addresses associated with a company domain; its separate verification service reports address checks. Test role relevance and uncertain results on your own segment.
  • Clay connects enrichment sources and workflow integrations. Your team still needs to define inputs, source order, acceptance rules, budgets and exception handling.
  • Cognism Diamond Data describes a phone-verified contact offering. Ask for a sample in your geography and buyer roles; vendor-wide claims are not your segment’s measured coverage.
  • LinkedIn Sales Navigator provides a professional-network research route. Check permitted use and the current plan’s workflow limits before treating it as an exportable contact database.
  • 6sense’s intent model uses account activity to model interest. A modelled account signal is different from a named person requesting your service.
  • HubSpot supplies CRM and sales-management capabilities. Successful activation still depends on mapping, object identity, permissions and assigned follow-up.

Apollo, Salesforce and other candidates in a shortlist should be assessed using the same checks. This page does not attach unverified current feature or price claims to them.

Questions for a practical tool trial
CapabilityTrial questionRecord the result
Company discoveryCan its filters find your actual sector, geography and company type?Accepted companies and false matches, with reasons.
Buyer dataAre the required roles current and identifiable?Role evidence, missing names and generic inboxes.
Verification and enrichmentAre sources, dates and uncertain outcomes visible?Field provenance and result categories.
API and exportCan you preserve IDs, evidence and status in the intended destination?Actual fields, limits and duplicate behaviour.
Orchestration and AICan a failed step stop, retry safely and remain reviewable?Failure branches, reviewer edits and replay results.
Outreach and CRMAre approval, assignment, opt-out and pause controls workable?A controlled acceptance journey and receipts.
UK/EU useDo the source terms and data-handling arrangements support your intended use?Reviewed documentation and unresolved questions.

Software, managed research or a system you own

Compare the operating model as well as the tool
ChoiceYour team ownsBest question to ask
Software subscriptionsBrief, configuration, review, integrations and maintenance.Do we have an operator and enough repeatable work to justify the setup?
Managed researchBrief, acceptance standard and commercial follow-up.What exactly is delivered, which exceptions are returned, and how are rejected records handled?
Installed systemClient accounts, day-to-day operation, review and ongoing costs. Can another team member operate and recover it using the handover?
Managed outboundApprovals, offer, commercial decisions and agreed exceptions.Who handles replies, opt-outs, failures and pausing, and what has been demonstrated?

Compare total work and cost

Ask what consumes credits: discovery, successful enrichment, attempted lookups, verification, exports or automation runs. Record seats, minimum term, API access, refresh costs, integrations and cancellation terms from the current quote. Include time spent repairing bad matches and handling exceptions.

Run the same bounded brief through each option and count records that meet the same acceptance standard. Keep rejected and missing records in the denominator. A cheaper export may require more review; a managed service may reduce operational work but still needs an agreed brief and acceptance process.

Is there one best B2B lead generation tool?

The best fit depends on the job and the operator. A verification tool cannot establish company fit, and a CRM cannot repair unsupported research merely by storing it.

Can a trial prove production readiness?

A trial supplies evidence for the tested segment and scenarios. Check limits, restart behaviour, failures and actual handover before extending it to a larger campaign.
